Brecon Mountain Railway

Day One

From you home pick-up you will join your coach and travel to Gloucester for free time, thanks to its strategic position on the River Severn and close to the Welsh border, the city of Gloucester has a rich historic past stretching back to Roman times. At its heart stands the Norman Cathedral with its magnificent fan vaulted cloisters and great east window. A walk down narrow cobbled streets and past ancient buildings leads into the main pedestrianized shopping area, a short stroll away from the dramatic waterfront of the Victorian Docks with its impressive converted warehouses. We continue in the late afternoon to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day Two

After breakfast we travel to meet our vintage steam train for a beautiful scenic ride into the Brecon Beacons National Park along the length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir and up to Torpantau high in the Beacons on one of the most popular railways in Wales, followed by a visit to Abergavenny a vibrant market town.

Day Three

A leisurely ride to enjoy the full colour of Autumn through the Forest of Dean to Monmouth, return via the Wye Valley with a stop at Tintern Abbey before returning to our hotel.

Day Four

Today a visit to the Welsh capital of Wales, Cardiff, first a visit to St Fagans and the Museum of Welsh life, traditional crafts and activities brings the museum alive. The remainder of the day in Cardiff city centre with its stunning water front area, castle, parks and retail area.

Day Five

This morning we bid farewell and before our journey home with a lunch stop in the Shropshire town of Ludlow.
