HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Penrith   |   Longtown   |   Bellingham   |   Hexham   |   Brampton   |   Drinks Special Offer

DAY ONE

We depart from your home for your winter break with our exclusive home pick-up service, join your tour coach and travel north to Cumbria with comfort stops enroute.  The hotel offers a programme of evening entertainment and a tea dance is held each evening before dinner.

DAY TWO

Today we have an excursion that takes us south via Castle Carrock, through lovely countryside, which includes the Pennine Hills and Eden Valley to the market town of Penrith.  Penrith is rich in history, from the imposing castle ruins to its fine arcades.  A sold clock tower marks the town centre and the skyline is dominated by the square tower of St Andrew’s Church, it is well worth taking a look inside.

Today is market day and you will have the chance to browse the stalls before we make our way into the Pennines, climbing the spectacular Hartside Pass on the way to Alston with its cobbled main street and 17th century buildings, continuing along the South Tyne Valley before returning to our hotel.

DAY THREE

After breakfast today we head for Longtown and drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park, from here we continue to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square.  This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian’s Wall which stretches some 76 miles from the Tyne to the Solway.

DAY FOUR

Our first stop today is in nearby Brampton where we have a break before we continue to the historic border city of Carlisle.  The city has much to offer – Carlisle Cathedral founded in 1122 is one of the smallest in the country, the 900 year old castle, built to keep our the Scots and the Tullie House museum, detailing the city’s history.

The Lanes Shopping Centre is at the heart of the pedestrianised city centre with chic boutiques.  This afternoon we call at Houghton Hall Garden Centre with 3 floors not just devoted to gardening but with clothes, gifts, Laird’s Larder Food Hall and coffee shop.

DAY FIVE

This morning after a leisurely breakfast we say goodbye to Cumbria and begin our journey home with comfort stops enroute.
