Highlights

Great Central Railway   |   Calke Abbey   |   Cannock Chase Museum   |   Chasewater Light Railway

Day One

We depart from your home with our exclusive door to door pick-up service and travel to Staffordshire, refreshment stops enroute, tea/coffee & biscuits await you whilst your luggage is take to your rooms.  Time to relax before dinner.

Day Two

Leicestershire is our first destination today, with a journey on the Great Central Railway to Loughborough, this heritage line crosses picturesque Swithland reservoir on the way and passes through lovingly restored stations like Rothley and Quorn.  At Loughborough we have chance for a drink and bite to eat before we are on our way again for our afternoon visit to the un-stately home and country estate of Calke Abbey in Derbyshire.  In the care of the National Trust Calke has been left in a state of disrepair and negligence with little restoration and tells the story of the dramatic decline of a grand country-house estate portraying a period of the 20th century when numerous country estates did not survive, outside there are faded walled gardens, orangery and kitchen gardens to explore.

Day Three

For our outing today we head into the pleasant countryside through Newborough, Abbots Bromley, across Blithfield Reservoir to Admaston and Rugeley, taking us to Cannock Chase and a short break at Cannock Chase Museum to discover the area’s history and mining heritage, from here we make our way to Chasewater.  The Chasewater Light Railway operates from Brownhills West across the country park to Chasewater Heaths Stations, a round trip of about 4 miles; enjoy a browse around the gift shop or the Sidings tea room to round off your visit.

Day Four

This morning after breakfast we begin our journey home with refreshment stops enroute.
