DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Derbyshire through the Peak District and to our hotel.  On arrival we enjoy, sandwiches, hot cross buns and tea and coffee.  Time to relax before your dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Crich Tramway Village and Cromford Mills

This morning we head off to the heart of the Derbyshire countryside to a unique attraction that lets you travel back in time to a world of vintage trams. Crich Tramway Village is home to the National Tramway Museum, which has a collection of over 60 trams manufactured between 1873 to 1982. The recreated period village has various trams which run along a mile long track, passing through original buildings which have been rescued and restored from around the UK. Head to the Great Exhibition Hall to discover a hundred years of tramway development or make your way along the Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail in the surrounding countryside.

This afternoon we visit Cromford Mills, steeped in history as the birthplace of the modern factory system and the world’s first successful water-powered cotton spinning mill, built in 1771 by Sir Richard Arkwright. From then until around 1790, Arkwright continued to develop the mills, warehouses, and workshops, which now form the Cromford Mills site.  Considered as a whole, it presents a remarkable picture of an early textile factory complex. The cotton industry was a cornerstone of the industrial revolution, discover how Arkwright started from humble beginnings as an apprentice barber to become one of the wealthiest men in the country.

Later we’ll return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY THREE – Kedleston Hall

Happy Easter!

This morning we make our way the short distance to Kedleston Hall an 18th-century mansion with Adam interiors, colonial history, and vast parkland.  Kedleston Hall is an extravagant temple to the arts designed by the architect Robert Adam. Commissioned in the 1750s by Nathaniel Curzon whose ancestors had resided at Kedleston since the 12th century. The house is framed by historic parkland and boasts opulent interiors intended to impress.

We’ll then return to our hotel and enjoy our Easter Sunday lunch, with time for you to then relax, and maybe enjoy the leisure facilities before our light buffet this evening.
