Visit the outdoor filming locations used in ‘Call the Midwife’ and enjoy a guided tour of the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, from your very own ‘midwife’.  We will also make a visit to the ancient city of Canterbury, a world-famous UNESCO Heritage Site that has been welcoming pilgrims and other visitors since 1170.

HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Call the Midwife Tour   |   Chatham Dockyards   |   Whitstable   |   Herne Bay   |   Canterbury   |   Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Kent and our hotel.  Time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Call the Midwife

Today we have a wonderfully historic and interesting voyage of discovery. First, we head to Chatham and the famous Historic Naval Dockyard.

This vast maritime heritage site offers much to see with an abundance of historic buildings dating from 1704, three warships, dry docks, Royal Dockyard Museum and much more.

This afternoon in the dockyard we enjoy the ‘Call the Midwife’ tour led by the dockyard’s very own ‘Midwife’. After the tour we enjoy afternoon tea in the Mess Deck.

DAY THREE – Whitstable, Herne Bay & Canterbury

Today we travel via Sittingbourne and Faversham to visit the genteel coastal resorts of Whitstable and Herne Bay, continuing along the north coast of Kent to Margate and Broadstairs. From here we continue to historic Canterbury, the city is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral, now a World Heritage Site and the city centre being very compact is best explored on foot.

DAY FOUR – Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

Today we have a treat and travel on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway.

Since 1927 the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has been an integral part of the landscape of the Romney Marsh.

Known as “Kent’s Mainline in Miniature”, the world famous one-third full size steam & diesel locomotives have powered their way along the 13½ miles of track from the Cinque Port town of Hythe to Dungeness.

After our train journey we’ll explore the area further before returning to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY FIVE – Departure

After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
