HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Hull   |   Beverley   |   Burton Constable Hall   |   Helmsley   |   Sledmere House

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Kingston upon Hull, arriving in the afternoon where tea and coffee will be served on arrival, and you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Hull

Today we stay in Hull, you’ll have the day at leisure to explore the city.  Why not hop on the Open Top Bus tour, or perhaps make your way the short distance to The Deep - The Deep, Hull’s award-winning aquarium, you’ll be taken on a journey through prehistoric seas, past tropical lagoons, into the vast open oceans, down to the darkest depths, through the chilly Kingdom of ice and into the future.

Take the time to visit Hull’s Old Town and Museum Quarter. The Streetlife Museum is well worth a visit and is home to over 200 years of transport history. This immersive world of bicycles, carriages, motorcars, railways, and street life through the years is not to be missed. The museum showcases rare cars dating from 1987 which are part of the 1900 motor show, a 1940s street reconstruction and the original Cottingham North signal box which was moved to the site brick by brick. To top off your visit, experience the smells of a stable as you disembark from the Hull to York Mail Coach ride.

Or simply enjoy the hotel terrace on the marina and watch the world go by before dinner this evening.

DAY THREE – Beverley and Burton Constable Hall

This morning we visit Beverley, a well-loved and thriving traditional market town and its Market Cross still stands proudly in the centre of its bustling marketplace. You will be able to obtain lunch here before our afternoon visit to Burton Constable Hall.

Burton Constable Hall is a large Elizabethan country house in England, with 18th- and 19th-century interiors and a fine 18th-century cabinet of curiosities. The hall, a Grade I listed building, is set in a park designed by Capability Brown with an area of 300 acres.

We have included the ‘Cobwebs and Cream Teas’ tour, where you will explore this wonderful Elizabethan house literally from top to toe, seeing the rooftops and garrets, as well as delving into the depths of the cellars: en-route taking in servants’ quarters, grand state rooms, archives and stores.

You will get ‘up close and personal’ with this extraordinary house and its maze of rooms and staircases; fascinating collections and curiosities; and enjoy tales of residents above and below stairs, across the centuries.

Plus, a sumptuous Afternoon Tea is included for you to enjoy before we make our way back to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY FOUR – Helmsley and Sledmere House

After breakfast we make our way to Helmsley, the only market town in the 554 square miles of the North York Moors National Park.

It has everything you would expect in a quintessentially English market town: a vibrant market square, independent, specialist shops, excellent places to eat and drink, an imposing castle, friendly locals, a babbling brook, beautiful surrounding countryside.

The oldest surviving house in Helmsley is Canon’s Garth, the vicarage. Not only that but the Norman castle, dates back over 900 years, evolved over the centuries, from a mighty medieval fortress to a luxurious Tudor mansion, to a Civil War stronghold and a romantic Victorian ruin.

Continuing our day, we then visit Sledmere House East Yorkshire’s Finest Country House.

There is something about the charm of Sledmere which has captivated visitors for over 200 years. Steeped in history and full of stories, the much-loved home of Sir Tatton Sykes 8th Baronet is full of unique collections of artwork, furniture and antiques and we include a guided tour where you’ll explore the captivating family history and fascinating anecdotes spanning over 250 years.

We then make our way back to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
