We depart from your local selected pick-up point, join your coach and travel to Yorkshire with a visit to the city of Leeds which boasts one of the finest shopping centres in England. Arrive at your hotel late afternoon, tea/coffee and biscuits await you on arrival, time to relax before dinner.
We begin our day with a drive north taking us into the Rhubarb Triangle and to the family run firm of E. Oldroyd & Sons Ltd Rhubarb Experience.
We are served tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival followed by a talk by Janet Oldroyd Hulme who has become affectionately known as the High Priestess of Rhubarb. Next we visit the forcing sheds and the unbelievable sight of rhubarb growing indoors, out of season, in the dark.
The Oldroyd family have 5 generations experience in forced rhubarb production, and are one of the countrys largest producers of rhubarb. Each year, tourists from far and wide flock to the Oldroyds farm at Carlton to see the rhubarb growing and being harvested by candlelight.
Later we continue into Wakefield and the Hepworth Art Gallery and Museum, here you can obtain lunch in the café bar and explore the gallery or the city itself before returning to our hotel.
This morning we leave our hotel after a leisurely breakfast and begin our journey home travelling through the Peak District in Derbyshire.
